About the University
Nanjing Medical University (NMU) was founded in 1934 as `The Jiangsu Provisional College of Health Policy and Management’ in Zhenjiang and renamed as Nanjing Medical College in 1957 when it was moved to Nanjing.
In 1962 Nanjing Medical College was one of the first universities in China to offer English taught MBBS as six years program, and approved by the Ministry of Education of the people’s republic of China (MOE).
It was renamed to Nanjing Medical University (NMU) in 1993 and is now among the top most universities in China.
Nanjing Medical University, China has two main campuses in Wutai with a land area of eighty hectares and Jiangning with a land area of eighty seven hectares, both of which has international student apartments. Undergraduate programs such as MBBS and scientific research are being taught at the Jiangning campus and the clinical teaching for undergraduate (MBBS), the post graduate programs and scientific research are being taught at the Wutai campus. Both the campuses are well connected with metro trains.
In recent years, Nanjing Medical University, China has formed extensive international cooperation and exchange program for MBBS and other degree and diploma programs to establish partnerships with higher institutions at home and abroad. Nanjing Medical University is recognized for its bilateral and academic relationships with the medical schools and research institutes in the USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Japan, France, Sweden, Australia and other countries. Nanjing Medical University (NMU) is recognized by WHO and the graduates of MBBS program are eligible to take the Medical Licensing Examinations held by the medical council in different countries such as MCI, PMDC, USMLE, PLAB, HPCSA, SCHS, etc.
The study duration is 6 years, including 1 year internship. The students can wish to do their internship in Nanjing Medical University or can choose their own country. For the first four years the students study at the Jiangning campus and then transferred to Wutai campus to complete their studies for another two years. Students are required to pass HSK (band 3) before graduation; otherwise they cannot get the degree.

Nanjing Medical University has 23 affiliated hospital and more than 50 teaching hospitals. Five teaching hospitals are designated for international students which are namely 1. Jiangsu Province Hospital, 2. The Second affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, 3. Nanjing First Hospital, 4. Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital and 5. Nanjing Children’s Hospital.
The library in Nanjing Medical University is the medical center of “Jiangsu Academic Library & Information System” (JALIS) and integral part of the “Engineering Documentation and Information Center” of Jiangsu Province. It has abundant medical literature. The Wutai campus has two connected building with 9000 square meters in area and the Jiangning campus library is 25,000 square meter with a seating capacity of 3000 people. It currently has 9,10,000 printed resources, 7,20,000 e-book and 38,000 e-journals. The books are mainly in the fields of Basic Medicine, Clinical medicine, Preventive Medicine and Pharmaceuticals.
Nanjing Medical University provides scholarship to outstanding students with good marks and performance, such as “Scholarship for outstanding international students”, “Entrance scholarship for excellent international students”, “Nanjing Government scholarship”, “Jasmine Jiangsu scholarship”.
Accommodation and campus life;
Both the campuses has International student apartments.
All the apartments are equipped with air-conditioner, water heater, water dispenser, single cot with bed, individual wardrobe, study desk and internet interface.
The Wutai campus apartment has double and triple bedrooms with an attached bathroom and a kitchen counter.
The Jiangning campus apartment has single and double bedrooms with shared bathroom, washing room and public kitchen in each floor. The launderette is in the ground floor.
Elevator is available 24 hours a day and these apartments are electronically monitored and provided with good quality residential property management services.
Outdoor football court, Volley ball court, Basketball court, Tennis court, and a Multifunctional Indoor stadium are there in both the campuses.
There is an international students dining hall, several Chinese food courts and grocery markets in both the campuses.
Shopping malls are within ten minute walk from both the campuses.
The Wutai is only five minute walk from the downtown center of Xinjiekou.
Other facilities includes such as barber shop, dry cleaners, telephone booths, post office and ATM within both the campus.
